- don't leave camera on automatic so you can use all of the functions
- wide shot, mid shot, close up
- what information needs to be conveyed?? facial expression = close up
- each shot has more information than the last, makes it more interesting
- storyboard to plan shots (celtx)
- framing - major objects in a third. looking room between the right and left thirds if there is an actor looking at something
- unconventional framing would be missing out the looking room (for example he is looking to the left, and on the left third)
- camera height (high angle, low angle)
- continuous props and actors from scene to scene
- eyelines must be accurate - camera on one side of the eyeline
- wide lens and long lens
- keep camera steady and smooth
- handheld camera movement - better with moving subject
- focus -- (dslr) move white box. magnification button. focus
- frame rate - pictures that appear like motion due to multiple frames per second.
